It was founded with an aim to provide a platform for distance education institutions - established and developing - to judge their quality of educational service on the basis of sound educational standards and ethical business practices set by UCOEA. Its core function is to promote high quality distance education by identifying standards that outline the best educational practices.

As as independent, non-profit membership organization, the Council is responsible for the evaluation and accreditation of eligible online institutions, meeting the stringent standards.

How Online MBA programs are Accredited in the United Kingdom (UK)

There are basically two established accreditation agency which is the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA).

The Association of MBAs was founded in 1967 by eight UK graduates from Harvard and Wharton. Realising the fundamental strength of the qualification in terms of business and leadership, but seeing little knowledge of it in Europe, they decided to form a lobby and membership group.

AMBA accreditation service is internationally recognised as the global standard for all Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Doctorates in Business Administration (DBA) and Masters in Business and Management (MBM) programmes. The Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) accredits Bachelor and Master degrees in fields such as business administration, economics, business computing, engineering and business administration, business psychology, business law, etc. in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Since 2003, FIBBA also accredits "Diploma" courses. FIBBA is usually the first stop for German Business School to look for an official accreditation of their MBA courses. Also several MBA programs in Austria and Switzerland are accredited by FIBBA.
